More Than Two Decades In, the Fight Against ALS Continues

The Angel Fund for ALS Research returns as our charitable partner for the 2026 game. The organization supports groundbreaking ALS research led by Dr. Robert Brown and his colleagues at UMass Chan Medical School.

Angel Fund President Rich “Ratt” Kennedy has dedicated more than two decades to raising money for ALS research. After losing his father and two brothers to the disease, Ratt began experiencing symptoms while training for the Boston Marathon in 2016. He was diagnosed with an inherited form of ALS that April.

Ratt and Chief Umpire Walter Bentson, who is also living with ALS, remain at the heart of the event. Walter coordinates the statewide umpiring crews that rotate throughout the game and traditionally returns behind the plate for his annual midnight appearance.

In 2025, rain brought the game to a close after 92 innings, but participants still raised approximately $52,000. That effort pushed the event’s cumulative fundraising beyond $1 million since the first game was played in 2004.

The 23rd annual 100 Innings of Baseball begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Adams Field in Quincy and continues into Sunday afternoon. Players may participate for a few innings, several hours or the entire game. We hope you will join us by playing, umpiring, fundraising or donating in support of the fight against ALS.

Richard “Ratt” Kennedy, president of The Angel Fund, addresses players and fans before last year’s 100 Innings of Baseball game in Quincy, MA, alongside umpire chief and event organizer, Walter Bentson. The game to date has raised more than $900,000 for ALS research.
